Goal:
Achieve the handstands the quickest way possible
Awais was bored of using the same machines, sitting down and mindlessley pushing and pulling weight, with barely any success in muscle gain.
He wanted to try something different. He wanted to learn the handstand. Alongside being fed up of a mundane fitness regime, he wanted an insane physique also to learn calisthenics skills such as the L sit, the infamous muscle up and handstands.
It took him:
Less than 2 weeks to achieve the L sit
Within 3 months to learn the muscleup
Less than 6 months to achieve the perfect handstands
So how did I make this happen?
We planned accordingly on mastering basics and Awais’ preferences. This included increasing reps in pull ups, push ups and dips. Then finding the Awais’ strengths and weakness within each movement and using that for and against him to progress in the fastest and injury free way possible.
For example in handstands initially, we used the wall consistently to attain great mind to muscle connection and a variety of drills to overcome fear being upside down such as:
How to correctly bail which prevents injury
handstand alignment
Importance of hip engagement
With over 6 years of calisthenics knowledge and what took me almost 2 years to achieve.
It took him 4 months!
Through practise and optimising drills to maximise Awais’ handstand results, within 6 months he was able to kick up and hold the handstand with ease!
A proud moment for me and Awais, a statement of hard work and dedication and a proof of result orientated handstand program
Now Awais cant stop doing handstands
Now he won’t stop going into handstands and is now learning the handstand push ups and L sit handstands
I’m actually jealous with how quick he got.
But thats not all
Mukarram
Mukarram gained 5kg of pure muscle mass, transforming his physique from a skinny dude to now doing 35kg pull ups and muscle ups for reps in just under 11 weeks!
‘But Haaris, calisthenics can’t build muscle?
WRONG!
Why is it so most of the population cant do 5 pull ups but can easily rep out weights?
Everything In calisthenics is a compound lift, so not only we are using more than one muscle group which requires more energy but we are using our whole bodyweight or a part of it in every rep, so each muscle is being worked at a high stress stimulus forcing your body to build muscle.
Mukarram wanted to transform his physique to looking like Kratos or Bane and build muscle. You see many athletes that do calisthenics have a similar physique to such characters, so calisthenics was the answer and the transformation approves.
The mindset of Mukarram showed he’s a dedicated individual to prioritise on his health and constantly striving to be in the best shape even though he has very busy travelling schedule.
You can build an insane V taper physique from mastering pull ups, dips, and push ups and so that’s what we had did through different phases of progression overload.
Like many people starting calisthenics, he wanted do cool skills such as the L sit and the muscle up. We focused on phases of increasing pulling strength and explosiveness then we broke down the technique of the muscle up by practising negatives, straight bar dips and chest to bar to name a few.
Under 11 weeks he not only got his first CLEAN muscle up (we don’t serve chicken wings) not just once but hes repping them out! He also achieved the L sit alongside it, building that bullet proof core and insane strength (which he now shows off)
